PDF to Text

Copying text out of a PDF is fiddly. Drop your file and the text of every page is saved to a plain .txt file with the line order kept. You can also convert only selected pages.

Your files stay on your device. Processing happens entirely in your browser.

  1. Drop or choose your PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Scanned documents are images with no text layer. Use {tool:ocr} for those; it reads the text from the image.

Is formatting kept?

Lines and page order are kept; fonts, colours and table borders are not part of plain text. For tables use {tool:pdfToExcel}, for document layout use {tool:pdfToWord}.

Are special characters kept?

Yes. The file is saved as UTF-8, so accented letters and symbols display correctly.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The text is extracted in your browser and your PDF never leaves your device.
