Grayscale PDF

Convert a colour PDF to gray before printing so you do not waste colour ink. "Grayscale" keeps photos; "Black and white" makes text documents crisp and small, like a photocopy.

Your files stay on your device. Processing happens entirely in your browser.

How to Grayscale PDF

  1. Drop or choose your PDF.
  2. Choose grayscale or black and white, and high quality if needed.
  3. Click "Convert to grayscale" and download the new PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Grayscale or black and white?

Grayscale keeps the in-between tones of photos and charts. Black and white turns every dot black or white, which is sharpest and smallest for text documents.

Can I still select the text?

Pages are converted to images, so text is not selectable in the result. If you need text, run the result through {tool:ocr}.

Will the file get bigger?

Text-heavy PDFs may grow a little. Use {tool:compress} if needed; black and white is usually smaller.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and your PDF never leaves your device.
